What are Balanced Armatures?
- Balanced armature drivers use an electronic signal to vibrate a tiny reed that is balanced between two magnets inside a tiny enclosure. The motion of the reed is transferred to a very stiff aluminium diaphragm. This diaphragm is free of unwanted resonances in the audio band, allowing it to produce excellent clarity.
- Balanced armature drivers are incredibly small. This leaves more room for other components or a larger battery inside hearable devices, and can allow multiple drivers to be combined to get the best sound and performance from in-ear monitors or wireless earphones.
- Symphonium Audio uses balanced armature technology in our earphones.

Where are your IEMs made? Are they all made in-house?
- Yes, all Symphonium Audio IEMs are all proudly designed and manufactured in Singapore using components sourced both domestically and globally from trusted suppliers.
- Each pair is handmade and tested to rigorous standards by skilled technicians and also comes with the Symphonium quality promise that ensures each set is made to the highest quality.
What terminations do you offer with your IEMs?
- We offer both unbalanced 3.5mm terminations as well as 4.4mm balanced termination. These are the 2 most popular terminations in the portable audio market today and are compatible with majority of pro-audio devices and leading digital audio players.
- 2.5mm balanced terminations are also available (on request). Do choose whichever one fits your needs.
- Models with interchangeable OE plug terminations come with both 3.5mm and 4.4mm heads but not the 2.5mm; if needed, 2.5mm heads can be bought separately in our shop.
What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced terminations?
- Balanced terminations in relation to IEMs and Headphones refer to differential drive where instead of both L/R signals sharing a common ground, we have L+ with L- and R+ with R-. Many high end audio sources offer balanced outputs with a higher power rating.
- Differential drive delivers an increase in audio performance due to the doubling of the amp’s voltage slew rate, lower noise, and reduced crosstalk due to the elimination of the shared audio ground between the left and right channels.
- We recommend running our IEMs in a balanced setup where possible for greatest performance and fidelity.

Are Symphonium Audio IEMs good for gaming?
- Yes! You’ll be able to immerse yourself in the game better. As our IEMs are designed to reproduce the accurate imagery in music, it directly translates into a good gaming experience.
- High quality IEMs do wonders for gaming as they can properly represent the correct spatial imagery. FPS games will feel more lifelike and you will be able to hear the directionality of each sound effect. Moreover, all game types will also benefit from the increased resolution and clear reproduction in sound, making for an enjoyable and immersive gaming experience.
Can I use my own cables with your IEMs?
- Yes, our IEMs have a standard 0.78mm 2-pin connection, so you can use your own cable if you prefer; as long as they have the same termination.
- However, we do not sell IEMs separately without it's bundled cable.
Do you offer custom-fit IEMs?
- As of now, we do not offer a custom-fit service.
Do you sell wireless IEMs?
- Unfortunately not at the moment. However, there are wireless high-res solutions available in the market such as our partner’s iFi Audio Go Pods that can transform our wired IEMs into wireless for listening on-the-go. Do check them out!
What is the Frequency Response Chart? How can I read it?
- Frequency Response charts are a measurement of SPL (loudness) against frequency which generally falls between 20Hz to 20kHz for humans. All our IEMs will have some difference in SPL depending on which part of the frequency is tuned to be more/less prominent.
- These charts are meant as a complement to subjective impressions, not a replacement for them. While these charts can be a good tool to gauge an IEM's overall sound signature, they only measure performance in a single simulated condition, thus they fall short of fully describing the sound of an lEM as a listener may experience it.
- One way to think about it is; FR charts give a 2D view of something that is 3D in nature. That is, it gives people an overall idea of what it can sound like but does not explain the rest.

Headphones.com – Measurements and FR
Why does your FR charts look different to publicly available measurements?
- This can be for any number of reasons;
Unit variation of measurement couplers/mics, Different measurement standardizations (IEC 7011/60318-4 vs B&K 5128), Different Calibrations, Different Insertion Depths, Different Eartips etc - Majority of publicly available measurements use the notoriously known (and widely accessible) Chinese IEC-7011 clone mics that are uncalibrated and rated accurate only up to 8khz (hence inaccurate post 8khz up to 10khz on ‘golden’ coupler samples)
- Our measurements make sense only when compared against each other as they are all measured on the same mic setup in similar conditions. These start to make less sense when compared against publicly available FRs measurements due to the reasons listed above.

My IEMs are lacking in bass. Whats going on?
- Typically, this is due to fit issues as the eartip does not form a full and complete seal within your ear canal. Gently press the earphones deeper into your ear and see if you hear more bass. Try tilting the earphones at different angles and/or swap to a larger/smaller eartip size.
- With a good fit, you should perceive environmental sounds around you as muffled. For an optimal listening experience, it is crucial to use correctly sized eartips with our IEMs. An incomplete seal will result in a suboptimal listening experience.
My Symphonium IEMs do not sound as good as when I first got them. What should I do?
- Over time, earwax may build up on the mesh filters if not cared for regularly and this may start to impede the sound. Please view our guide on how to maintain your Symphonium IEMs here; it will not take more than 5 minutes!
- If you cannot get rid of the earwax build-up, kindly contact us and we will assess the damage.
My mesh filters have fallen out. Will this affect the sound?
- Our mesh filters are specifically chosen to be acoustically transparent. Lack of a filter should not affect the sound output but may allow more dirt and earwax to enter over time.
- We recommend our users to be careful when cleaning their IEMs. Intentional or unintentional poking of the filters will loosen it over time.
Can I get replacement filters for my IEM?
- Sure, Symphonium Audio will provide replacement filters for you free-of-charge with just the cost of shipping. Please reach out to us via our contact form or shop chat to inquire more.
